El Nino Rain is Coming | Is Your Roof Prepared for Rain?
Who is El Nino?
The way national
television describes El Nino, you would think it’s a traditional Spanish straw-hat,
chubby brown skin fella that has a mean punch. However, let us put my personal
frustration in regards to news corporations and address what really is the
great El Nino.
El Nino is a tropical
storm originated in the equatorial pacific and is caused by unusual warming of
the waters near the equator. This occurs slowly and it quickly becomes elevated
to destructive levels that can drown out cities and destroy properties. What’s
more, it has a schedule and tends to occur between June - September.
Why this is important and important to Homeowners now?
National reports
(responsible newsworthy stations) have predicted that 2015 El Nino is going to
be the worst Tropical storm to hit Southern California. In order to understand
the severity of the situation, in 1997 The El Nino caused millions of dollars
in damages to homes and structures in California. Southern California hillside
properties got hit with the worst. Every Hillside property had mudslides and
hundreds and thousands of dollars of damages done to the properties.
Foundations on hillsides crumbled and home's come tumbling down.
That’s just a small
preview of what happened in 1997. In 2015, weather predictions say it will be
much worse. Approximately 10% -25% worse. What should matter to homeowners is
the damages it can do for your home and if your insurance will cover natural disasters
and floods. That’s a crucial thing to consider for homes in Malibu Hills, Chino
Hills, Santa Monica, and anywhere with hillside properties.
How to protect your home against El Nino
Whether it’s the 1st
time you heard about El Nino or have a history of battling this nasty storm,
you need to start think about preparing your roof, your foundation and possible
mudslides that might occur during the storm.

Foundation Bolting
Helic Bolts for the
foundation is an effective way to secure your foundation in addition to bolting.
Helic pillar bolts are bolt like pillars that are bolted to the core of our
planet for addition strengthening of the foundation. This is one of the best ways
to fight against any shifts in the soil and slippery slopes.
Roof Reinforcements
Prepping the roof is the
next big thing to worry about. If your roof is over 20 years old, it might not
withstand the next El Nino. The pure magnitude of the storm can rip off roofs
and anything that is not strong enough to withstand the speed and power of the
storm. There are options for reinforcing the roof which will provide just the
level of protection to weather in the storm.
Retainer Walls
Lastly we recommend sand
bags, lots and lots of sandbags. That’s temporary but will do the trick. If
sandbags will not fit your needs, we recommend retainer walls that are sturdier,
will help protect your home from any the mudslides.
